Welcome & How To Use The Tool (Updated 20230430)

Hello!

This site is intended to host the data dashboard I created in Power Bi, that uses publically-available data to, hopefully, simplify the Law School application process. Below you will find instructions for using this dashboard ("The Tool"). This is not anything groundbreaking, but it will hopefully be useful for anyone trying to make informed decisions about where to apply. Should this gain any amount of interest, I'll add additional features on request/as I learn more about Power Bi. For the time being, however, here is a quick summary of features:

- Aggregate data from ABA required disclosures from 2012 to 2022
- sorting and filtering by specific data (i.e. rank by BigLaw/Federal Clerkship outcomes, rank by 2022 median LSAT, rank by primary employment location, etc)
- filter by year

Like I said, nothing groundbreaking, but hopefully helpful.

The tool can be accessed either by clicking "Show More" at the bottom of this post, or, in case you are having display issues, on the page creatively named "The Tool", at the top of this page.

To use:

1). Navigate either lower on this page, or to "the tool" page, listed above.
2a). If you wish to view academic data, and financial data for full time students, use the white toolbar at the bottom of "the tool" window, and use the arrows there to navigate to "page 1" (this should be the default page, but it can be finicky).
2b). If you wish to view academic data, and part time financial data, follow the same steps, but navigate to "page 2" (again, page 2 within the power bi window)
3). Select the year for which you want to view data
4). Select any acadamic data sets you want to view (various employment outcomes, USWNR rank, medians, etc. By default, all data fields are displayed).
5). Select any financial data sets you want to view (again, all fields are displayed until you select one or more).
6). Lastly, clicking the header of any of the displayed data fields, will sort all of the schools based on that criteria (i.e. ranked by cost of attendance, BL/FC outcomes, primary region of employment, etc).
- Also note you will probably find it easier to use by clicking "open in new window", which is the tiny icon on the bottom-right of the Microsoft footer. It looks like two pages with an arrow pointing out.

Lastly, as of 04/30/23, I've tentatively added in financial data, however, this resulted in an even more cluttered interface. To work around this, there are now three "slides" on the tool, which can be accessed from the white toolbar on the bottom of the report. Slide 1 contains financial filters for full time students only, page 2 contains the data for part time, and page 3 is the same report that was previously published (meaning academic data only).

So that's it; the tool is below, or at the aforementioned alternate page, and feel free to contact me with suggestions or feedback!
